SP Architects has received a 2009 Educational Facility Design Award for its work on the Arizona State University (ASU) Polytechnic Academic Complex in Mesa, from the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
The ASU complex dramatically transformed from a decommissioned U.S. Air Force base into a vibrant green campus with RSP’s work. The earth-friendly design combines four academic colleges under one university roof through a series of shaded outdoor gathering spaces and energy-efficient interiors.
The Committee for Architecture Education (CAE) Design Awards recognize exemplary leaders in the educational facility planning and design field. The awards, which are issued in three categories of Citation, Merit and Excellence, honor excellence in planning and design, and the ability to understand merging ideas and to share knowledge.
“This award validates that we achieved our goals of preserving and utilizing the local environment while enhancing Mesa’s learning environment,” said RSP president, David Norback.
RSP maintains a diverse practice with architectural expertise in several fields, including healthcare, higher education, hospitality, institutional, manufacturing, research and retail.
